Cyrix Announces 150 MHz MediaGX™ Processor
Continues to Drive Rapidly Growing Sub-$1,000 PC Market

Richardson, Texas - June 6, 1997- Cyrix Corporation today announced volume production shipment of the 150 MHz MediaGX™ processor. The PC market has shown strong acceptance of this product which enables full PC functionality at breakthrough price points since its introduction in February 1997. The MediaGX processor, supported by a growing number of customers and key PC infrastructure members, incorporates multimedia and system functions right on the CPU.

As expected, MediaGX processor technology has sparked new growth in the emerging sub-$1,000 consumer PC market, helping to nearly triple this segment's total share of the U.S. retail market since January 1997, according to market researcher Computer Intelligence.

"With the introduction of MediaGX technology, Cyrix empowered sub-$1,000 systems and brought multimedia PC functionality to the masses," said Steve Tobak, vice president of corporate and channel marketing at Cyrix. "We continue to drive frequency and feature improvements to keep pace with end-user demand for this growing segment of the market. Cyrix is enabling PC manufacturers to build the extremely affordable systems consumers want without sacrificing performance and features.

Customer Base and Growing Infrastructure Support
Since the inception of the MediaGX processor, the technology has received strong support from motherboard and system manufacturers. The 150 MHz version of the MediaGX processor is incorporated in the new Compaq Presario® 2120. In addition, BCM Advanced Research (a GVC Group subsidiary) introduced the FM519 motherboard and ES3300 entertainment station based on the MediaGX processor in May 1997.

"The robust features of the Cyrix MediaGX processor enable our OEM customers to deliver a complete multimedia PC for well under $1,000," said Alonzo Cardenas, director of marketing, BCM Advanced Research. "We, too, recognize the tremendous growth of this segment and are pleased that Cyrix is providing us with the means to build the products that our OEM customers will use to reach this market."

Systems are also available from Compaq (Presario 2120), FIC (Oasis), IBM Canada (Ambra Ispirati), Samsung (Sens S505T-12C31) and Tatung (TNC1000).
